Stabilization

Stabilization Treatment Program

A stabilization treatment program is here to help in case relapses may occur.  Relapses can occur due to different risk factors like stress in everyday life and negative emotions.  Therefore, the main goal of a stabilization program for addiction is to get an individual back on track after a relapse occurs.

In this stage, the patient is guided through the process of detoxification.  This may be done with or without medications, but frequently the former is more common.  Also, part of stabilization explains what to expect during treatment and the recovery process.  Where appropriate, people close to the patient are brought in at this time to become involved and give support.

Stabilization Process

Basically, relapse can be discouraging to an individual who is actively trying to live in recovery.  Also, you may lose confidence and hope for the future, leading to a greater possibility because you’re thinking that you will relapse again.  So, a stabilization program for addiction is used to correct these mistakes made on the road to recovery and help you move forward confidently to a brighter future free from drugs or alcohol.

Given that, stabilization will be the first step when you first enter treatment for your mental illness and addiction.  In the world of mental health recovery, it means reaching a psychological state of peace.

Several Interventions May Be Used to Help You Achieve this:

  • Detoxification:  The natural process of your body cleansing itself after excessive use of alcohol or drugs.  Detox is the first stage of treatment, lasting around three to seven days based on substance.  In detox, users go through drug withdrawal to move past the physical components of addiction.
  • Medication:  Medical experts may prescribe medications to minimize the side effects of withdrawal for patients with long-term or severe substance abuse, giving you clear thoughts while working through your issues and concerns in therapy.
  • Monitoring:  Checking on your progress with medication and mental stability through psychological testing and therapy outcomes.

One of the main goals of stabilization is to bring you emotional stability.  Emotional stability means getting regular sleep patterns, eating nutritiously, taking medication as prescribed; refraining from alcohol and drugs, and avoiding making impulsive decisions such as being out of control, hurting your loved one; or suddenly leaving a job.

– Stay drug-free
– Be productive in the family, at work, and in society [1]

A call to our admissions team is the opening door to start with a substance abuse detox program because you’re acknowledging you need help.  The admissions team helps to carry out the first stage of the detox program:  evaluation.  In addition to helping with insurance, payment, and travel arrangements, they will ask a series of questions to understand what type of treatment plan is best.

Once fully admitted and evaluated, the 2nd stage of detox gets underway:  stabilization.  Based on the information provided during the admissions process, patient feedback, and the symptoms observed, our experienced team of medical addiction professionals will provide care to keep the patient stable and as comfortable as possible.
