Pink Pussy Pill – Risks and Effects

Table of Contents

Understandably one of the most common concerns people have about sexual enhancement pills is that it could be a type of physically addictive medication, similar to many prescription painkillers, stimulants and other drugs. Continue reading to learn more.

Dangers of Pink Pussy Pill and Other Sexual Enhancement Pills

Safety and quality concerns regarding pink pussy pills and other over-the-counter sexual enhancement products sold in the USA market pose a major health risk to the general public. Sexual risk behaviors may be influenced by psycho-behavioral factors, including substance use and sexual enhancement expectancy. Existing research suggested that substance use may mediate the relationship between sexual enhancement expectancy and sexual risk behaviors [1]. The substance use literature also suggested that non-medical use of prescription drugs (NMUPD) was highly prevalent in college students and was associated with sexual risk.

What is Pink Pussy Pill?

Sexual enhancement pills — Pink Pussycat Pills — saw a huge increase in sales after Cardi B posted this on social media (Twitter), “Ladies have you ever tried the Pink pussycat pill? What ya think about it?” What exactly is a Pink Pussy Pills? Why did the FDA warn consumers about its use?

While female sexual enhancement was once a taboo subject, much information available today can help ladies increase their sexual pleasure and excitement. The range of available products for women is equally impressive. But determining the effective supplements can be tricky, especially if you’ve never tried sexual enhancement pills before. While the Pink Pussycat sex pill is popular, it can have considerable side effects.

The Pink Pussycat pill is a small, pink gel capsule that is easily swallowed and digested. The manufacturer claims some of the listed ingredients of this supplement include:

  • Licorice
  • Cinnamon Bark
  • Cordyceps Sinensis
  • Panax Ginseng

However, the Food and Drug Administration is advising consumers not to purchase or use Pink Pussycat, a product promoted and sold for sexual enhancement on various websites, and possibly in some retail stores.

Public Notification: Pink Pussycat Pills Contains Hidden Drug Ingredient

FDA laboratory analysis confirmed that Pink Pussycat contains Sildenafil, the active ingredient in the FDA-approved prescription drug Viagra, used to treat erectile dysfunction. FDA’s approval of Viagra is restricted to use under the supervision of a licensed health care professional. This undeclared ingredient may interact with nitrates found in some prescription drugs, such as nitroglycerin, and may lower blood pressure to dangerous levels. People with diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or heart disease often take nitrates.

The National Women’s Health Network is warning all women about the health risks of the new “pink pill” – known as flibanserin and branded as Addyi – alleged to boost female libido. Rather than rely on drug company marketing, NWHN recommends that women educate themselves and pass on the pink pill.

Slang terms for pink pussy pill include:

Sildenafil Drug Facts

Sildenafil

FDA laboratory analysis confirmed that Pink Pussycat contains Sildenafil, the active ingredient in the FDA-approved prescription drug Viagra, used to treat erectile dysfunction.

Sildenafil sold under the brand name Viagra, among others, is a medication used to treat erectile dysfunction and pulmonary arterial hypertension. It is unclear if it is effective for treating sexual dysfunction in women. It is taken by mouth or by injection into a vein.

ChEMBL Id: 192

ChemSpider ID: 56586

Formula: C22H30N6O4S

Pronunciation: /sɪlˈdɛnəfɪl/ sil-DEN-ə-fil

Onset of action: 20 minutes

Protein binding: ~96%

Metabolism: Liver: CYP3A4 (major route), CYP2C9 (minor route)

Original use

Sildenafil, the chemical name for Viagra, is an artificial compound that was originally synthesized and studied to treat hypertension (high blood pressure) and angina pectoris (a form of cardiovascular disease).

Proper use

To treat erectile dysfunction-ED, take this drug by mouth as directed by your doctor, usually as needed. Take sildenafil at least 30 minutes, but no more than 4 hours, before sexual activity (1 hour before is the most effective). Do not take more than once daily.

What is its effect on the body?

Physiological effects of oxycodone include:

  • Pain relief, sedation, respiratory depression,
    constipation, papillary constriction, and cough
    suppression.
  • Extended or chronic use of oxycodone
containing acetaminophen may cause severe liver
    damage

Effectiveness

How effective is Viagra? Viagra has been shown to be effective in two thirds of men with erectile dysfunction. Viagra’s effectiveness is decreased if you take it after a heavy meal or consuming large amounts of alcohol. Without sexual stimulation Viagra won’t produce any results.

Medication

Sildenafil (Viagra), vardenafil (Levitra, Staxyn), tadalafil (Cialis) and avanafil (Stendra) are oral medications that reverse erectile dysfunction by enhancing the effects of nitric oxide, a natural chemical your body produces that relaxes muscles in the penis.

Safety and Quality Concerns Regarding Pink Pussycat Pills and Other Over-the-Counter Sexual Enhancement Products

Safety and quality concerns regarding over-the-counter sexual enhancement products sold in the USA market pose a major health risk to the general public. Nevertheless, the use of herbal medicines continues to expand rapidly across world and many people perceive usage of herbal medication as a safe and reliable way to improve health outcome. The safety of herbal supplements has become a globally major concern in national and international health authorities due to increasing adverse events and adulterations associated with usage of herbal medications.

These products are accessible for purchase from local food, drug stores and the internet. These products are marketed as supplements and are not currently under the regulations of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and are thus released to the general public containing unknown amounts of medications or drugs that are normally available by prescription only in the USA.

Risks of Using Pink Pussycat Pills and Other Over-the-Counter Sexual Enhancement Products

This multi-million dollar business is driven by various psychological factors that many individuals may be too embarrassed to ask their primary care for treatment. They may have experienced side effects after using Sildenafil or Tadalafil. Therefore, these individuals may turn to using products they deem natural or without side effects and thus believe they are safer. As in the majority of these cases, the manufacturers of these products neither list the true content and nature of the ingredients nor indicate the quantity or quality of the substances used in these products.

Popping herbal sex pills is linked to an increased risk of stroke, headaches, and vision problems. The pills marketed as safe herbal alternatives to Viagra and other prescription medications for erectile dysfunction exhibit a hidden danger and adverse effects, especially among people with pre-existing heart conditions. Concomitant use of sex pills with high blood pressure and heart meds can lead to a stroke or even death

Sex Enhancement Pills for Women: Do They Really Work?

Sexual functioning is an integral part of human life and has been shown in research to be important to both men and women. In the Study of Women’s Health across the Nation, more than 75% of women reported sex to be moderately to extremely important. Around 43% of women report sexual problems with 22.2% reporting sexually related personal distress. Hypoactive sexual desire disorder (HSDD) has been regarded to be the most common female sexual dysfunction (FSD) and affects nearly 1 in 10 women.

What is Hypoactive Sexual Desire Disorder (HSDD)?

There are some women who have a condition called hypoactive sexual desire disorder (HSDD). HSDD is the most common sexual disorder and premenopausal women with this diagnosis have experienced a loss or decrease in sexual desire. With HSDD, a woman’s lack of sexual desire isn’t due to another medical or psychiatric condition, problems within the relationship, or the effects of a medication or other drug. HSDD was removed from the fifth edition of Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorder (DSM-V). Its symptoms were established as a criterion for female sexual interest/arousal disorder

There are two prescription drugs on the market that have been approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to specifically address HSDD. They are available only for premenopausal women.

These drugs are dubbed “female Viagra,” as a play on the medication for men to alleviate erectile dysfunction. They work in the body in different ways and are also administered differently.

  • Flibanserin (Addyi), a pill taken every evening.
  • Bremelanotide (Vyleesi), a self-administered injection before sex

The Public should be educated at local, state and national levels to avoid miss use of sexual enhancement products purchased through the internet or over the counter.

Flibanserin

Flibanserin is a novel multifunctional serotonin agonist and antagonist. Disguised as a little pink pill, Flibanserin (Addyi) is prescribed only to treat HSDD. But is this pink pill for you? The answer is no if you’re just looking for a medication to put you in the mood.

People shouldn’t confuse the drug with an aphrodisiac because it’s not a drug to increase libido. Flibanserin treats hypoactive sexual desire disorder in premenopausal women and restores sexual desire back to the woman’s previous baseline. It’s not an aphrodisiac.

The most serious side effects include severely low blood pressure and loss of consciousness. These risks are increased when patients drink alcohol or take certain medicines that interfere with the breakdown of Flibanserin in the body. That means doctors will have to consult with a patient and assess whether abstaining from alcohol is possible.

Bremelanotide

Vyleesi (bremelanotide) is an FDA-approved prescription injection for treating HSDD in premenopausal people who, for unknown reasons, no longer desire to have sex regardless of the sexual activity, situation, or partner. This medication increases sexual desire but doesn’t help with sexual performance. It also manages HSDD-related distress.

In the United States (U.S.), young adults (aged 18–25) are vulnerable to sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) infections. According to recent national data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) adolescents and young adults accounted for more than 50% of new STIs (70% for Gonorrhea and 63% for Chlamydia), and their rates of new STIs increased (by 5% for Chlamydia and 12.8% for Gonorrhea) from 2016 to 2017.

College students have a high risk of STIs and HIV infections owing to sexual risk behaviors, including having sex with multiple (or casual) partners, unprotected sex (sex without using a condom), and sex under the influence of substances.

Substance use (e.g., alcohol use) is a robust behavioral factor associated with sexual risk behaviors. In the past two decades, the substance use literature has paid an increasing attention to non-medical use of prescription drugs (NMUPD).

NMUPD refers to the use of prescription medicines for reducing pain and mental health symptoms without approval from a physician. NMUPD usually includes the use of four classes of drugs: opioids (e.g., OxyContin), sedatives (e.g., Ambien), anxiolytics (e.g., Ativan), and stimulants (e.g., Ritalin).

U.S. national statistics have revealed that young adults (aged 18–25) reported the highest rate of past year NMUPD (7.1%) relative to other age groups (4.4% for aged 12–17; 4.0% for those aged 26 or older). Importantly, NMUPD has been associated with sexual risk behaviors.

Moreover, NMUPD can lead to additional risk due to its relationship with other substance use. For example, U.S. national data indicated that young adults with alcohol misuse were 18 times more likely to engage in NMUPD compared to nondrinkers. Another study revealed that, compared to those who had never engaged in NMUPD, youths with NMUPD were significantly more likely to have sex under the influence of alcohol or illicit drugs.

The availability of these products through the internet and over the counter in local grocery stores places has a huge clinical challenge to health care.

Flibanserin and Alcohol

Flibanserin is for use only when low sexual desire is NOT caused by a medical condition, a mental disorder, relationship problems, or by using drugs or other medicines. Flibanserin is not for women who have already gone through menopause. Alcohol may cause you to have dangerously low blood pressure if taken with flibanserin. Skip your bedtime dose of flibanserin if you have consumed alcohol less than 2 hours earlier. Flibanserin can lower your blood pressure, which can make you dizzy. If you feel light-headed after taking this medicine, lie down if you are not already in bed.

Sildenafil and Alcohol

FDA laboratory analysis confirmed that Pink Pussycat contains Sildenafil, the active ingredient in the FDA-approved prescription drug Viagra, used to treat erectile dysfunction. Sildenafil citrate is indicated for the treatment of erectile dysfunction in men.

The nitric oxide-cyclic guanosine monophosphate pathway (NO-cGMP) involved in penile erection and enhanced by sildenafil may also play a role in some components of the female sexual arousal response. The efficacy and safety of sildenafil were evaluated in estrogenized and estrogen-deficient women with sexual dysfunction that included female sexual arousal disorder (FSAD).

Studies shows that any genital physiological effect of sildenafil was not perceived as improving the sexual response in estrogenized or estrogen-deficient women with a broad spectrum of sexual dysfunction that included FSAD. In short, it is unclear if it is effective for treating sexual dysfunction in women.

Many prescription medications report alcohol as a contraindication. Does the same hold true for sildenafil with alcohol? Alcohol and sildenafil have two primary side effects:

  • Lightheadedness
  • Flushed skin

Alcohol with sildenafil may increase headache frequency, especially for those who have a history of migraines and headaches. Sildenafil and alcohol use may also result in flushed skin. There are two primary reasons for this. At lower levels, alcohol is a vasodilator, and it is common to experience flushing.

Are Sexual Enhancement Pills Addictive?

One of the most common concerns many individuals have about sexual enhancement pills is whether or not it’s addictive or habit-forming. Understandably one of the most common concerns people have about sexual enhancement pills is that it could be a type of physically addictive medication, similar to many prescription painkillers, stimulants and other drugs. Sildenafil (the active ingredient in most sexual enhancement pills) isn’t linked to withdrawal symptoms if you stop using it suddenly.

It is s also possible to become dependent on Sildenafil when you have not been prescribed it and are just using it for recreational use. Sildenafil is not physically addictive however it is the psychological addiction which can be hard for many individuals to overcome. Below are some of the signs which may indicate you having a dependency on sexual enhancement pills;

  • Using the drug more often and it is becoming part of your day-to-day routine
  • Missing work or social events due to the effects of sexual enhancement pills for example extreme fatigue
  • Having sexual enhancement pills start to affect your relationship, both sexually and emotionally
  • Continuing to use sexual enhancement pills even if you have extreme side effects
  • Using sexual enhancement pills daily which can then cause you to become tolerant of the drug and you having to use stronger dosages to see any effect
  • Buying sexual enhancement pills when you cannot afford it or getting into debt because of it

Alcoholism Treatment

First and foremost, if you think a loved one is abusing alcohol, you should research the substances and their associated addiction to understand better what your loved one needs.  Next, you must plan an intervention to provide your loved ones with options to battle the effects of alcohol addiction in a safe and supportive environment. During this intervention, offer compassion and support instead of judgment. Lastly, show your support throughout the entire treatment process.

In addition, prolonged drug use can have severe physical and psychological effects on you, so it is essential to seek treatment as soon as possible. Inpatient drug rehab offers intensive care that can help you promptly get through the early stages of alcohol withdrawal

Alcohol Detox

Medical detox is often considered the first stage of treatment. It will help you navigate the complicated alcohol withdrawal but doesn’t address patterns of thought and behavior contributing to drug use. Various treatment approaches and settings can help provide the ongoing support necessary to maintain long-term sobriety after you complete the alcohol detox.

Cravings are very common during alcohol detox and can be challenging to overcome. This often leads to relapse. Constant medical care provided during inpatient treatment helps prevent relapse. Clinicians can give medication and medical expertise to lessen cravings and withdrawal symptoms.

Inpatient Alcohol Rehab

There isn’t one treatment approach or style that will suit everyone. Treatment should speak to the needs of the individual. Inpatient rehab and addiction treatment aren’t just about drug use. the goal is to help the patient stop using alcohol and other substances, but alcohol rehab should also focus on the whole person’s needs.

Addiction is a complex but treatable disease that affects brain function and behavior. When someone or their family is considering different treatment facilities, they should account for the complexity of addiction and the needs of the individual. The objective of attending an inpatient rehab center for addiction treatment is to stop using the drug and re-learn how to live a productive life without it.

Following a full medical detox, most people benefit from inpatient rehab. Inpatient drug rehab can last anywhere from 28 days to several months. Patients stay overnight in the rehab facility and participate in intensive treatment programs and therapy. Once someone completes rehab, their addiction treatment team will create an aftercare plan, which may include continuing therapy and participation in a 12-step program like Narcotics Anonymous.

Psychotherapy

Many rehab programs will also have early morning classes or programs. Group sessions occur during inpatient rehab, as do individual therapy sessions. Family therapy may be part of inpatient rehab when it’s feasible. Alternative forms of therapy may be introduced during inpatient rehab, like a holistic therapy program, yoga for addiction recovery, or an addiction treatment massage therapy.

Several different modalities of psychotherapy have been used in the treatment of mental health disorders along with addiction, including:

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) – is an effective treatment that involves changing both the patterns of negative thoughts and the behavioral routines which are affecting the daily life of the depressed person for various forms of depression.
  • Dialectical Behavioral Therapy – is a comprehensive mental health and substance abuse treatment program whose ultimate goal is to aid patients in their efforts to build a life worth living. The main goal of DBT is to help a person develop what is referred to as a “clear mind.”
  • Solution-focused therapy is an approach interested in solutions that can be quickly implemented with a simple first step leading to further positive consequences.

Dual Diagnosis Treatment

Drug abuse and mental health disorders often co-occur. In many cases, traumatic experiences can result in mental health disorders and substance abuse. Dual-diagnosis rehabilitation treats both of these issues together. The best approach for the treatment of dual diagnosis is an integrated system. This strategy treats both the substance abuse problem and the mental disorder simultaneously. Regardless of which diagnosis (mental health or substance abuse problem) came first, long-term recovery will depend mainly on the treatment for both diseases done by the same team or provider.

Medication Assisted Treatments (MAT)

Medication-Assisted Treatments (MAT) for substance use and mental health disorders are commonly used in conjunction with one another. This includes the use of medications and other medical procedures. During your rehab, the staff from your treatment facility will help you identify what caused your addiction and teach you skills that will help you change your behavior patterns and challenge the negative thoughts that led to your addiction. Sometimes, the pressures and problems in your life lead you to rely on substances to help you forget about them momentarily.

Please, do not try to detox on your own. The detox process can be painful and difficult without medical assistance. However, getting through the detox process is crucial for continued treatment. We Level Up provide proper care with round-the-clock medical staff to assist your recovery through our opioid addiction treatment program medically.
